Sport
Cricket - Tasmania's state cricket team, the
Tasmanian Tigers, is one of our sporting icons and a
source of pride for all Tasmanians. Bellerive Oval,
on the eastern shores of the Derwent River overlooking
Hobart's CBD, is the Tasmanian Tigers home ground. Boasting
magnificent corporate, member and public viewing areas
and state-of-the-art media facilities the oval underwent
extensive re-development in 2002. The ground has capacity
for 16,200 fans and is regularly used for international
test and one-day games during the summer season.
Australian Rules Football - Each year, the magnificent
Aurora Stadium at Launceston's York Park is the venue
for a number of big, regular-season AFL games featuring
Hawthorn.
Yachting - Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race - The
Rolex Sydney Hobart is a 628nm yacht race which begins
in Sydney Harbour and finishes in Hobart. Each December
on Boxing Day you can see the world's greatest yachts
charging through Sydney Heads as they take part in the
Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Days later, in Hobart,
the excitement builds as news of who will be the first
boat to arrive comes through to Constitution Dock in
Hobart.
